Some of you may have noticed that you’re unable to download any of the shared albums lately. Nothing to worry about, It’s just that I’ve reached that max. for data transfer that I’m allowed on Divshare. It’s not the end though, everything will be restored on July 7th and you’ll be able to get the albums you’ve been waiting for. The same goes for my other blog, Like…Dreamsville.2474814387_1d6d182967_b

Teenbeat Takeover Wooly Weekend

Posted in Messages From Skipper on June 29, 2009 by skipperbartlett1

teenbeattakeoverartblaccz7 This is turning into the summer of everything that happens when I have to work ! Just saw this over at Garage Hangover and had to post it here. Looks like the best line up I’ve ever seen. The original Electric Prunes, The Gruesomes, ? & The Mysterions and many many more great bands. My friends band, The Saffron Sect are also playing. Sadly, it looks like the lineup will be changing a bit since Sky Saxon was also scheduled to play. If you dig 60’s garage punk than you need to come to Montreal and check this out. Wish I could join you

The Girl From Rio – Jess Franco – 1968

Posted in Movies with tags , on June 26, 2009 by skipperbartlett1

Now, Jess Franco is one of those directors that people seem to love or hate, I think he’s great…most of the time. He’s so prolific, it would be hard not to put out a few great films just by default. Either way, even with his not so great films, I can kind of see what he was trying to accomplish.

The Girl From Rio is on of my favorites of his, from the best period of his career, the late 60’s early 70’s. It’s based on the Sax Rohmer character, Sumuru, although, in this film she’s called Sunanda, Sumanda, Sumitra, you name it, they can’t seem to get it right, but who cares. This is a beautiful looking film, beautiful 60’s girls – Shirley Eaton, Maria Rohm, Marta Reves and Elisa Mont├ęs, beautiful location – Rio de Janerio, Brazil, the colours, cool 60’s fashion and decor. And the soundtrack, due to the films location, alternates between breezy bossa loungers and uptempo samba school drums and whistles.

“But you said you didn’t want to be disturbed ?”

“This is the capital city of a world of women, our world, our city, Femina.”

Carnival reveler or….

“If I were you, I’d get out of town.”

“What kind of a space age sorceress are you ?”

“Now, my dear, suppose you tell us where he is ?”

“These are our special guests.”

“Sentry #10 required to report. You take over.”

“My lady. Mr. Sutton and the girl, Ulla, have stolen a plane.”

“You owe me one million and a half.”

“It just so happens that you’re the second person who’s been interested in the same thing.”

“Oh ? Who’s the first?’

“The rays destroy the organs of the body…..slowly.”

“Well, as you know, I hate being crude.”

“Did you think I’d let you get away with it ? I’d rather destroy this whole city and everything in it than see it possessed by men.”

“That’s the end of Sunanda.”
